Executive Director, Open Content Alliance

The Open Content Alliance is seeking an experienced individual for the role of Executive Director. This individual will become the leader and public face of a vital association of nearly 100 cultural and academic institutions that are working to build joint online collections and engage in activities that support the open sharing of information. The Director's mission will be to lead growth of the OCA to a new level of influence and activity, possibly including evolution to an independent non-profit organization.The Executive Director will:

Advocate fervently for openness and sharing of cultural and scholarly materials Evangelize OCA, its activities and projects
Establish collaborative partnerships among libraries, archives and funding sources
Raise the public profile of the Alliance and expand the breadth of institutional affiliations
Craft a development (funding) strategy and drive development efforts for collaborative projects and possibly a small administrative organization
Prepare strategic and public relations plans for the OCA
Develop and implement a strategy for working with the commercial (trade and academic) publishing industries
Expand the public policy influence of the OCA
Explore governance anad organizational alternatives and reporting to contributors
Engage high profile advisory board members
Design and implement and support multiple mechanisms for communication and collaboration among OCA members, including the OCA website, blog activity, mailings (electronic and/or paper) and public speaking/conference activity.

Requirements:

5-10 years experience managing collaborative organizations or a not for profit.
Dynamic communication style, including public speaking and writing experience.
Familiarity and/or experience with grant writing process.
Library, museum, policy-making or cultural institution experience a plus.

Location: Open; possible co-location with an academic or cultural institution participating in OCA

Salary: Commensurate with experience. An expense budget will be provided.
